The world in which we live is full of hardship. A true friend is difficult to find. People are drawn to conflict, drama, and eventful stories. What if the world wasn’t so wicked and vile? Families would get along, friends wouldn’t argue, relationships wouldn’t end, heartbreak would be nonexistent, and a true friend wouldn’t be hard to find. Imagine a world where those things were a given. All of these have one common component: peace. Christ wants the world to be united in peace. After all, in John 16:33, he says, “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world, you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”
John 14:27 says, “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled, and do not be afraid.” As we live in a broken world, this peace given to us by Christ can be challenging to cultivate. One example of a way we can show the peace of Christ is by giving to those in need. As cliché as it sounds, financial and emotional support can change someone’s life for the better and give them a new sense of peace. Numerous charities around every city dedicate their work to giving back to the community. For example, The Salvation Army, founded as an integral part of the Christian church, prides itself in making a difference in the community by giving peace to those in need. Doing this gives to those in Poverty and spreads the word of God. Sometimes, hearing the word of God gives hope to the hopeless and peace to the restless.
Another way to provide peace is by bridging the gap between the youth and the elderly. In today’s society, there is a massive disconnect between the generation known as “Boomers” and “Millennials”/”Generation Z.”” These two groups have very different ideas on how the world should operate. The phrase “agree to disagree” most certainly does not apply to these two groups, as they mutually dislike one another. They are rather vocal about their differences as well. Many of the elderly live in retirement homes. What if we all could bridge the gap between the two groups? This is an excellent step in attempting to understand the differences of opinions. Maybe, once these differences can be set aside, peace will win the hearts of both parties.
The issues of our imperfect world will only worsen over time. Eventually, the occupants of this sinful world will destroy one another. Peace is the only way we can overcome evil. Jesus grants us this peace, but we, as a society, must decide whether or not we are willing to do what it takes to overcome our differences and accept God’s peace. We all can make a difference, and we must find how to individually complete the world into a better place to live.
